I don't really know how to introduce that but well looks like Sony Pictures has ditched Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire over creatives differences....

Director Sam Raimi and Sony didn't manage to agree on what villain would be in Spiderman 4, so Sony Pictures has decided to scrap Sam Raimi's Spiderman in order to reboot the franchise!

And looks like they already have a script for this Spiderman Reboot: it was written by James Vanderbilt long ago as a back-up plan. The new Spiderman would be a darker version.

Also the word is that Sony is hellbent on releasing The Spiderman reboot movie in 3D.

If Sony wants to stick to its release schedule, I guess we'll get more details soon.

It's not without feeling some frustration that I learned that Spiderman 4 is being pushed back from 2009 to May 2011...

During a meeting with theater owners Spider-Man producer Laura Ziskin revealed that Spider Man 4 is tentatively scheduled in May 2011. Moreover the screenplay of Spiderman 4 is not even finished yet... And besides, neither Director Sam Raimi nor Actor Tobey Maguire is yet confirmed for this fourth movie installment of the Spider-Man franchise.

Why do they wait so long? Aren't they afraid of people loosing interest not only in Spiderman but more generally in the superhero genre if they wait too long?

Let's hope that Marvel and Sony will try to start the production of Spiderman 4 as soon as possible!

The villain in Spiderman 4 has not been announced yet. But we are all trying to guess who it will be. I have been betting on the Lizard as being the most probable villain in the next Spiderman movie.

Some days ago I while searching for Spiderman 4 on the web I just found a video interview of Stan Lee, the creator of Spider-Man.
The interview dates back to one year ago. But I think it still sounds right and it would confirm the Lizard hypothesis:

So Stan Lee asserted that:

"A nice logical next villain would be the Lizard because I believe the character has been established in each of the 3 former movies."
I think unlikely that any producer or scriptwriter would counter Stan Lee's viewpoint.

So it's almost a given that the Lizard will be in Spiderman 4. Maybe the Lizard will join forces with some other villains to fight against the superhero Spiderman though.


Update as of 2009/03/16:

"We’re definitely talking about working from all the material in the comic books and nothing [invented] outside of that, 'Raimi continued. 'All the characters or villain or villains, whatever we decide to do will be from Stan Lee’s creations or those that came after him."

So Sam Raimi will stay faithful to the original source material. And I bet he will listen to Stan Lee: the old man is still the old man in the house! Quite sure we will have the Lizard by now!

James Vanderbilt has been selected by Sony Pictures to pen the screenplay of Spiderman 4.
It is said that Sony has chosen Vanderbilt for his character-driven approach to the story rather than a focus on special effects.

Vanderbilt's last movie, Zodiac, shows indeed such skills. Besides he is currently woking on Wolverine, and without any doubt, we can be sure that he's going to have a lot more experience of the comic-superheroe world.

It sounds like that Spiderman 4 plot will more emphasize its plot than the previous third installment of the Spiderman movie series.

Although it hasn't been officially announced yet we can already be sure that there will be a fourth installment to the Spiderman movie series.

Who will be Spiderman's foes in the next sequel to Spiderman? Well the question can't be answered so far as even the production probably doesn't know it: they're still working on a draft of the synopsis.

Let's try to guess who could be the mortal enemy:

Well let's be honest: for now, quite difficult to really guess who will be the next super-villain in Spiderman 4...


But maybe the truth is out there. Should ask to Madame Web !
